The mantra for Wessex MAT is ‘learning is everything’. Everyone in the MAT is a learner and we expect staff, as well as pupils and students, to continually develop and improve. That might be through formal qualifications or through some other form of continuous development.

It won’t come as any surprise that this strategic plan puts learning at the centre. We want every school to be a great school, giving young people the best possible experience of education and a passion for learning that will last throughout their lives. We want them to achieve the standards and qualifications that will allow them to progress, but we also want them to have the courage to try new things, particularly in sport and the arts, and to persevere when the going gets tough. We want them to be outward-looking, ready to take their place in a global world where they will have opportunities to mix with different people, to work and study in different places and to enjoy the richness of different cultures and traditions. We want them to be tolerant, kind people willing to give back as well as to take, ready to lead and speak up for the values that we stand by.

I hope you can read this document and see that ambitious vision translated into clear actions. The test of the plan is how far we can enable our young people to thrive and to achieve and we look forward to that challenge with excitement and optimism.
